About Gabriell
Gabriell recently served as the Director of the Research Core of the Health Equity Innovation Hub at the University of Louisville. Previously she spent time at both the state and local levels of public health work, including serving as Chief of Staff to the Louisville Director of Public Health during the city’s nationally recognized response to the COVID-19 epidemic. She also supervised the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program where she worked closely with agency, community, and national partners to address lead poisoning by focusing on community education, policy analysis, and development of cross-sector partnerships. Under her leadership, the program has received national recognition from several organizations including the CDC, the National Association of City and County Health Officials, and the National Center for Healthy Housing.
Before her work in Louisville, Gabriell worked at the Tennessee Department of Health in Nashville, TN, where she served as a liaison between birthing facilities and the state Newborn Screening Program, developed site visit protocols, and managed the site visit program. Through her work at both the state and local levels, Gabriell has proven expertise in program development and implementation, quality improvement, and program management. Her work has focused on needs assessments, stakeholder engagement, qualitative and quantitative data management, quality assurance and improvement practices, and program management.
Additionally, Gabriell is currently completing PhD coursework in Public Health Sciences at the University of Louisville where her concentration is Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences. Her research focuses on improving the negative health impacts of historically discriminatory housing and environmental policies in historically Black urban neighborhoods. She holds a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Sciences Management and Policy from East Tennessee State University as well as a Bachelor of Science with a General Science and Exercise Science double major from Middle Tennessee State University.
