Research Interests
Race, Health, and Politics
Race impacts every decision made at the local and national level. From the lasting effects of Redlining to the Affordable Care Act— policies in the United States continue to negatively effect the lives of Black and other Peoples of Color. My research aims to explore how and why marginalized groups’ health are impacted by these decisions.
Environmental and housing Justice
I seek to better understand how health disparities can arise from unequal environmental conditions and exposures to pollution. My research focuses on maximization of resources to empower communities to take action and participatory policy development.
Maternal and Child Health
A range of biological, social, environmental, and physical factors have been linked to maternal, infant, and child health outcomes. These include race and ethnicity, age, and socioeconomic factors. Some of these factors can affect and compound others, directly influencing a woman’s risk of pregnancy complications and her child’s cognitive and physical development.
